How To Explore The World Around You - Get Out And Do It!
Posted on March 24 2017
So, I have worked all over this planet and I can tell you how to explore the world around you, just get out and do it. As a pilot and a traveling entrepreneur, I have been able to travel the world and take the time to enjoy my environment. Whether that may be in Scotland or somewhere in Mexico, this How to explore the world around you - get out and do it!
So several years ago I found myself flying a trip to somewhere I had never been, Leon de Guanajuato in Mexico. It was a last minute trip I picked up so I did not know anything about it. I made the general assumption that it was just another small manufacturing town that was mainly comprised of factories and great food like I had flown to in the past. Now, don’t get me wrong, I love small Mexican towns with amazingly kind people and equally amazing food, but this place was different. Normally you can find cool little hikes wherever you go so I did my normal thing and hopped on the hotel Wi-Fi to see what was around, and boy was I shocked.
Leon de Guanajuato is an amazing place with some very interesting history and hiking. I had arrived at the hotel around 10 am and quickly came up with a plan based on one of my favorite sites, I called a local (reputable, you sometimes have to be careful in a new place) cab company and took a 30 minute cab ride to Canada de la Virgen an Otomi architectural site that was discovered in 1998 and carefully excavated since. It is amazing, totally off the beaten path and little to no tourists to be seen.
After spending several hours checking out the site I called my driver back and got a ride to an intermediate stop at the Mayan Baths, an indoor hot spring, for some afternoon relaxation. It was small, quaint, and the people and service were outstanding. I met and talked with a couple from Argentina who were staying at the same hotel as myself so I caught a ride back with them. This was truly a genuine non-tourist experience that I would never have had if I did not take the time to do a bit of research.
I have been lucky enough to travel a lot for work and have had equally enjoyable experiences all over. It is simply a matter of taking the time to try something different and explore what is around you no matter where you are. When you are headed somewhere on a work trip or visiting friends and family, talk to locals, do your homework (it literally takes minutes with what’s online these days), and get out and experience something new and exciting.
Having experiences like this not only allows you to try something new but also lets you get a different perspective one the places you go and the people you meet. So don’t waste any opportunity, just get out and experience the world around you the way that it’s meant to be. Look forward to chatting with you all soon!
