The New Year and a Stellar New Way to Travel, Philanthropy!

Posted on January 01 2019

First of all, Happy Holidays and happy new year! The holiday season bring joy but for those in need to can be challenging, you can make a change in this negative with your experiences in the world as you enjoy the outdoors and the Open World! This new industry is one that we have all experienced here at OpenWorld Outfitters and we want to share it with you.
VolunTourism  Defined: The conscious, seamlessly integrated combination of voluntary service to a destination and the best, traditional elements of travel — arts, culture, geography, history and recreation — in that destination. This is truly a way The concept of VoulenTourism is something that has been around for a while, but more and more companies have begun to recognize it and that gives you the opportunity to truly enjoy this concept in the form of travel while giving back to those in need. The basic concept here is the purchase of a trip through one of these companies that suits your interests, many of which focus on the outdoors, and a portion of your trip will be spent working on a project or mission in a community that helps others!
This concept provides you with an opportunity to travel and adventure in a place you would not normally go while supporting and directly participating in the helping of others. Our partners at OpenWorld Relief (www.OpenWorldRelief.org) have been doing this for the last 1.5 years and it is a truly once in a lifetime experience. If whitewater rafting and rock climbing, followed by a
few days working on a building project, culminating in a few days relaxing and enjoying a Caribbean beach sounds enticing, we agree because we have done it. This was an amazing experience that was truly fulfilling. Since that trip we have thought that this concept could really be a new way to take all of our vacations.
Some other suggestions for trips can be found on voluntourism.org, Projects-abroad.org, and references in the New York Times . Do some research on what feels like a great experience for you, and go!
This budding industry is something we want to share with our community so that you can have one of these amazing experiences yourself! With that being said, have a happy new year and may it bring a year of adventure, new experiences, and enjoyment of the open world it is meant to be.
Cheers,
Ben, Co-founder
